India Unbound

Gurcharan Das, Indian author, public intellectual and Times of India columnist in "INDIA UNBOUND" manifested India after post-colonial era by his experiences. In childhood he used to be a blindfolded admirer of nehru's policies of mixed economy,But gradually consequences of those policies caused adverse effect on indian economy, which was having "controls" of socialism and "monopoly" of capitalism.India being a newly decolonized country at that time had adopted such policies in fear of plutocrats and foreign involvements.Due to this when rest of the world was travelling in the train of industrialization we were unable to catch that train, chains of bureaucracy had beleaguered us.

Das heralds that after 1991 economic reforms india's gate were thrown open to foreign companies and modern infrastructure is fruit of that tree only, thanks to P.V Narsimha Rao. He'd chastised indian caste system ,which is hindrance for india's prosperity and even to bolster his views he had presented example of "Battle of Hdyaspes".

All in all he is being sanguine about India because at the time of Hitler's and Stalin's shadow India was not having even a single casualty, which makes India unconditionally a land of saints. He mentions that we are not like running tiger in terms of growth and development as our rivals are but a lumbering elephant, which is better for long run.

I find this good book as an island in the sea of mediocrity because there are few of them who consider both sides of coin.Though it would have better if series of policies were criticised less keeping milieu of that time in mind.
